Davidson plans to visit 10 camps this summer. Seven of those - North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, Duke, East Carolina, Elon and Charlotte - are in the Tar Heel State. Davidson said he expects a scholarship offer from Charlotte soon.
Your typical FCS programs do not go after high schoolers with BCS offers, right?

I'm not complaining, mostly just curious about the short term future goals of our program.

I was thinking the same thing.
Just because he goes to those camps doesn't mean he's being recruited by them.  They go there for exposure.

per rivals and scout he holds an offer from Illinois

Are we talking basketball or football?    I think that while basketball recruiting is hyper-selective, football recruiting is more broader and localized.

Not only pursue, but I'm pretty sure you can even find the occasional San Antonio kid who'll actually pick UTSA over a bcs program (or substitute in Georgia State/Atlanta or Old Dominion/Norfolk).    It seems like all the recent 1st year football teams have 70 scrubs, 10 pretty decent players, and at least 1 kid that makes you go 'Wow!'  We'll get our own 'wow!' kid from somewhere, I'm sure.

I wouldn't think that would be a factor. I'm basing this solely on the fact that the SEC is under scrutiny (along with other major BCS conferences) for "oversigning" their roster. If you're a low-level BCS/high-level FCS recruit and you have the option to play for a strong (or local) FCS program then you may consider that.

If its NFL concerns one could argue that the FCS sends players to the NFL - not as many, but it still does. 3-4 year starter at FCS against good competition gets you more work and experience than 0-2 year starter at a lower lever BCS school. I would think that would be valuable if you desire making the NFL.
The University of Charlotte? I think so.

A 5.02 40 yard dash?!  If you are that small don't you need to have the ability to outrun the big guys trying to smash you?

Hopefully he'll gain a few more inches in the next 2 years and we know they'll bulk him up to atleast 160lbs. If that's all muscle he should be near the 4.5/40 range by gameday 2013.

I'm viewing this kid from green tinted glasses already, but I doubt that is the case.  Not many high school wide receivers running > 5 second 40's are getting on the field, much less getting college looks.  I imagine the information is bad, there is even an evaluation comment saying they doubt it.

He's a track kid too: http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=1665860

Per this 55 meter dash in 7.14 seconds, that is 7.703 meters per second, or 8.4242 yards per second.  that would back out to a 4.75 40 time, and would probably be even faster with it being a 50% longer race.

If he's doing it on a track, that makes a difference in speed. Most 40's are timed on grass, which slows guys down just a bit (we're talking tenths of a second though).

That said, 40 yard dash times are one of the most overrated measures of a player anyway. Their correlation with speed in the game is usually pretty loose (e.g. watch how guys train for the 40 yard dash for the NFL draft, they work on sprinting techniques you'd be unlikely to see on the field). I would see how he does in pads against good competition as a much better measure.

If he plays for Eastern Alamance, I am sure N1NER has seen him play.  Awaiting his scouting report.
