They are considering demolishing much of their existing stadium to make way for a new 25,000 seat stadium. Article says 25,000 seats meets current ticket demand.

What the article either ignored or neglected is that I imagine some historic preservationists in Tidewater will possibly (probably) object to demolishing parts of Foreman Field...a 79 year old structure.  This is good for ODU.

So, ODU is going through a large campaign, similar to what we are doing the Exponential campaign. Good thing for us is it won't take $40m to make a huge impact at The Rich.

If we just put in something like Georgia Southern did 2 years ago, it would cost us about $20 million for small upper levels on each side.

Were they able to build straight up w/o demo like we can?

Not 100% sure, but it looks like there was only a small building on their concourse above the sunken bowl. I don't know if that remained or was removed.

They only added an upper level to one side at a cost of approximately $10 million. It is concrete, not steel.

The concourse on that side was like ours. Open air with concessions and restrooms. The stadium was designed to add an upper deck to each side from the beginning, so I don't think demo was needed.

Construction bid winner says it will take double shifts working every day to build new stadium by deadline of August 2019. And interesting that firm just happens to be owned by a prominent ODU booster!

Oops! That was quite a typo! Thanks!

In all seriousness, contractor had mentioned the possibility of needing to work on a 24 hour around the clock schedule to complete the stadium by August 2019. Apparently  ODU nixed that idea so going to be interesting to see if it is completed on time.

NOTHING is completed on time.
