My fear is that the BOG will decide that the system already has a School of Law in Chapel Hill that could start a branch in Charlotte, and we could partner with them.

I'm surprised CHP hasn't declared our undergrad programs & sports teams as a division of UNC-CH yet.
CHP sold out.  I declare Nick McEntyre our Chancellor-In-Exile!

3. I met yesterday with a group of faculty members to brainstorm opportunities in the area of legal education. With the widely publicized struggles of the Charlotte School of Law, many in our community are looking to UNC Charlotte as a natural solution to provide legal education in our region. We are diligently exploring all of the possibilities and potential challenges, and I'll keep you posted on any developments. Although it is not likely that the market for newly minted lawyers is going to improve any time soon, there may be ample opportunities for us to offer a certificate or master's program in legal studies for folks who need legal-related preparation but not the terminal J.D. degree.

Same subservient mindset as the health care field is to medical physician training.  How large is our metropolitan area again?  Unbelievable.

Honestly, I wont fault our school for not starting a law school, and especially not for taking over CSOL.  He's right about the market for lawyers being flooded.  With that said, I wish the efforts and resources would be devoted to a medical school instead, but it doesnt look like we want to break free being second fiddle on that, either.

Buying a failing law school is the equivalent of buying a steaming pile of number 2 so you weren't far off

Given the oversaturated legal market and the extreme difficulty of getting a law school off of the ground even in good markets, I think it would be unwise.  Buying CSOL in its current state and in this environment would be insanity.

What is there to buy anyway?  Books in the law library?  We probably don't want the students--they are a big part of the problem.  The faculty is tainted.  Best to let this die and start from scratch if we offer a law school.

After CSOL closes, we could get their law library for like $.50, & start over with new faculty & students.
We should get the Antifada protestors to tear down where it says UNC Med School at CMC, & replace it with one that says UNC Charlotte.

Nashville has TWO ranked Law Colleges - Vanderbilt and Belmont.  Seems Charlotte should have at LEAST one!

The University should snatch the Law Library. The County gave it to Charlotte Law School. The County doesn't want it and has no place to put it.

This isn't the time to campaign for another public law school in NC, but times change. With an expanded downtown campus, Charlotte might be able to secure a law school in the near future.

If they don't want the law library, all of us should split it in our houses until they do.

From the Chancellor's 2017 Convocation speech:
Quote

We have also begun a conversation with the UNC School of Law in Chapel Hill about
some kind of joint graduate-level degree and certificate programs in Legal Studies. Professor Kathleen
Nicolaides (Criminal Justice), Professor Tom Barth (Political Science) and University Compliance
Director Susan Burgess are representing us in those conversations. We do not envision creating another
law school in the state; there is simply no employment market at the moment for students who have earned
the J.D. degree. But, with what we expect will be the eventual closure of the Charlotte School of Law, we
do think there may be a need for graduate-level programming in Legal Studies for folks in the region who
work in government, human resources, or in compliance-related positions in highly-regulated institutions,
such as is the case with several employment sectors prominent in our region, most notably financial
services, healthcare, and energy.
