The first of her greatest accomplishments, according to Rose, was the new logo. Jim Woodward was the chancellor when Rose began her logo-changing crusade. He repeatedly shot down the idea, and it wasn’t until two baseball players were drafted and the newspaper said they attended “North Carolina” instead of “Charlotte” that he okayed the idea. A firm was hired and the new athletic logos were designed.

Name confusion that actually worked in our favor this morning.  I was watching the news this morning as I was getting ready, and the news story below was brought up on NBC with the graphic showing "UNC Professor' and the anchors repeatedly said 'UNC professor.'  I guess his court date is today.

clt says this gives us cover for a name change:

Part of the reason for the branding initiative, Spellings said, was to eliminate confusion between the UNC System offices, located in Chapel Hill, and UNC-Chapel Hill. The campus now often refers to itself as “Carolina.”

Did they amend the North Carolina General Statute?  If not, I am really confused now.  Here we have the University of North Carolina now calling themselves the University of North Carolina System.  Moreover, we have the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill calling themselves the University of North Carolina.  How did it get so complicated?
