I hope Barkley blows it up here, he's all about Charlotte. Would be great for local recruiting to have some of his caliber stay home and become a star.

https://247sports.com/college/charlotte/Season/2018-Football/Commits

I just want Barkley to show up and be eligible. He's one of the highest rated guys we have ever signed (actually the highest per 247)

Other notables in the class are RB Smalls, WR Jeffrey & Wiggins, and of course QB Brady Pope (who is actually only a 2 star recruit). Plus there is a kicker (not on the 247 page) from Cartersville GA, and a Punter from Cox Mills, both of which we badly needed.

It looks like there are a handful of guys who can contribute, but on the big board, we got creamed. Other schools in CUSA were signing 15-20 three star players and we are gonna sign four. I don't put much weight in any single recruits score, but that big picture trend is painfully bad. We have to recruit better if we want to win.

Since most of these kids will RS, this class likely wont impact the 2018 season much out of the JUCOs and the kicker, and if Pope actually plays as QB. But the lack of quality depth will weigh heavily on 2019 and 2020.

Is there a way to see how many 3* players came from Charlotte and immediately surrounding areas?  I'd love to know what our potential is if we can start locking up the local 3* kids.

there is no way around it, other than a few pretty good looking prospects, this class sucks. a bunch of guys with little to no offeres.

you can just do a recruit search on rivals or 247 with a filter of Charlotte and then sort by star ratings. Done. Wont take too long.

An interesting sort would be to see 3* players that went to CUSA, SBC, AAC, or MAC schools that had no offer from Charlotte. I actually wouldn't mind seeing that for 2* as well.

On the positive, I'm getting a good feeling about Barkley. I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time) but I think he's going to come in ready to knock some heads.

clt also would be interested to see the delay in offer time. for instance EZU offers a kid in January, and we don't offer until may.

Did Ben Duyck or Ishod Finger sign? I saw where they had committed

I know Finger did since I saw it on UC tweet, but I think he is a PWO.  He is a pretty small rb and thought he was going to Wingate.  Think it will be hard for him to get much PT, but could be wrong.

yes he is small. But I did like his film, great hips and change of direction without slowing down.

Also saw a tweet from Jack Mitchell (Ben Duyck's teammate), are they PWO too?

I think they are PWO, we will also typically sign several PWO around the April time frame as well so may not be done on that front.

I like the tape on Pope - good mechanics, strong arm, accurate.

I like Pope, but putting your job on the line with a true Freshman QB is not a recipe for success.

Dylan Ratliff, son of Phil Ratliff will be a 49er.  I assume as a walk-on.

Best of luck to him. I couldn't find him on Rivals or 247 and at 6ft 160, can't say I'm excited by this news.
