There was only one person freaking out in the shoutbox after the game.  In fact, most of the people in there talking were upset that we lost, but understanding of why we lost.  Most of the comments were to the effect of, "we were down 4 players" and "this is major's first game with a new team, it is going to take time."  Not the same old s*** people were complaining about with the last coach that was here.  Utter is a tool and has a serious crush on Bobby Lutz.  I have no problem with him homosexuality, he just needs to direct it toward other gay men and stop having fantasies about our former head coach.  He might want to stop prowling campus for naive students too, that one is just creepy.

The Shout Box move was definitely a douche move.  I was referring more to his post in this thread.

I think Normmm was probably right all along, we'll be really good next year.

Exactly! Most if not everyone was using some perspective and while everyone was upset we lost, the fact that we lost players to suspension and it was Major's first game were taken into consideration. No one is saying Major is perfect, but for the most part everyone wants to give Major a chance to succeed here.

Want the definition of a real fan?  Still here after missing the tournament for five years including two horrible, horrible losing seasons?  That's not enough?  Must we be even more masochistic to prove our worth as fans?

you have to admit, though true, it is kinda ironic all that was said (myself included) throughout that entire game. Pretty much the same stuff we've said since before Major got here. I believe the changes take time.

and for the record, I do think there is a fine line between what Jim was doing by making his statements and what all of you perceived it to be. He was making fun of a lot of the posters on THIS BOARD, not the program or a majority of its fans. I can assure you he didn't enjoy that loss anymore than any of us did - so be pissed he made fun of you, not that he made fun of our team, program, and fans.

Another thing, he didn't take any direct shots at anyones professionalism, looks, etc. - just what they typically say. Funny how we all get so much keyboard courage on here over criticism, isn't it?

Jim covered us proudly. I used to joke that he had the best job in the world covering the niners and nascar simultaneously, and he would agree. Some very unfortunate things happened over at the observer last year and he got called into another line that required a lot more time. I can almost guarantee you he would still love to be doing both. We didn't (and still don't) have much in the Observer, and thats unfortunate, but I thought Jim did a great job bringing us all the information he could. The real complaint should be that he wasn't made a full-time Niner journalist, but somethings are out of the employees hands.

Jim, feel free to correct any of my assumptions or understandings.

Now lets go win the Charleston Classic and put all this behind us. Winning cures all, right?

This is a good post.....I often did not agree with things Jim posted on this board, or wrote in articles but I guarantee you that he is a Niner fan and wants all our programs to succeed, regardless of what some of you think. Also, I find it humorous that some of those claiming he ripped into the fanbase are the same ones that rip our teams/programs the most themselves and NO, I don't think the team is above criticism. I've done plenty of it over the years, but many on here seem to enjoy ripping/exagerating how "terrible" our teams are more than they enjoy our victories. Utter just seems like something new to b**** about.

I criticize everything, but I don't gloat in our losses or misfortunes... there's a difference and nothing similar between the two.

Utter came on right after the loss and lead with, "I love it."  He was gloating that we lost.  s9er repeatedly asked him "Why are you being a dick?" and he wouldn't respond.  Anyone that wasn't on here to see his little diatribe can take whatever interpretation from what he's saying now, but he was here gloating pure and simple.

So he was gloating because we lost?  I remember him gloating when he told us we would not get a writeup about a certain big baseball win 2 seasons ago, but an alum gloating about a Niner loss says a lot, and none of it is positive.

End of discussion for me.

There's a line between just ripping on the team because that's all you know how to do, (which is wrong) and pointing out real problems in the program and issues surrounding the team and school. It really comes down to a matter of personal opinion if you think the ripping is exergerated or legitimate. Some people don't like to hear negative things about the school or the program even if real facts or involved. It's sort of like when a negative pre-season review is posted about our team and people get mad at the review even if it's factually correct.

I personally think Utter is bitter that Bobby got fired and that's why he was saying he loved seeing us lose.

can somebody, anybody provide this quote for me?

This is what it looks like to me:
Person A: "He just criticized us? What a jerk, its like he's happy we lost."
Person B: "Oh, well Person A said he thinks utter is happy we lost..."
Person C: "He said what? He's happy we lost?!"
Person D: "What a JERK! WHAT KIND OF ALUM IS HAPPY WE LOST?!"

Whats that game you played in kindergarden where you whispered something in someones ear and they passed it all the way around the circle and at the end the last person had to say out loud what they were told? You know, where the last person always has something they were told totally off base from what the first person said? Yeah, this is like that.

He criticized and told a bunch of you that you sounded like idiots. Thats it. Get over it.

note: not a shot at you switchfoot - I've just seen this said so many times from a lot of people I had to ask...

Not trying to say you aren't true, but were you in the shoutbox when it happened? It seems you're defending Utter because you are his personal friend, which is understandable and makes you a good friend, but not necessarily a good source for what exactly happened.

You guys are right in that there is a difference, but many posters on here seem to forget that in their posts. Posts like "we have sucked so bad for 5 years", "we always....", "Lutz is an idiot....", "we're a mid-major and always have been...."----These are the exaggerations I'm talking about. Some belittle everything we've ever done and highlight everything we've done poorly............If we collapse down the stretch twice in 10 years, it becomes "we always do this". When we have 4000 in attendance for a "bad" matchup, you come on this board and some posters claim we had 500. That crap gets old, thats all I'm saying!
