As a refresher, Niners won last year's matchup at Halton 65-56 after trailing at halftime 35-29. JMU was 0-6 coming into that game and finished 10-23 for the 2016-17 season.

This season the Dukes are 2-6, with one win coming over D-III Bridgewater and the other App State in 2 OTs in Harrisonburg.

Niners are one of four OOC games for JMU vs C-USA schools. Have already lost at home to ODU and on a neutral court to UTSA. Will also play FIU before Colonial action begins.

And speaking of the CAA, the Dukes were picked to finish last in the ten team league. Also didn't have any players named preseason all conference (and that includes honorable mention in addition to first and second teams).

Street & Smith's says Dukes returned only two players from last year, adding ten newcomers - half of which are freshman. Have three players averaging double figures in scoring, led by junior G Stuckey Mosley's 18.9 ppg.

No common OOC opponents this year. And trying not to read anything into JMU's win over App, which beat Davidson, which beat us!

So if we beat JUM, who beat App, who beat Davidson, the transitivily we will be tied with Davidson.  Got it.   ???

Been looking over JMU's results and Dukes could easily be 4-4.

In their most recent game - a 76-72 loss to George Mason - JMU led by 4 with under 10 seconds to play. At that point, GMU hit a three as JMU was whistled for a foul under the basket. After the Patriots hit FTs to take the lead, the Dukes were called for an offensive foul prior to the inbound pass, allowing GMU to hit more FTs and win the game!

In the game prior to that, Radford made the go ahead shot in the waning seconds to beat the Dukes by one.

In addition, JMU freshman G Matt Lewis is the reigning CAA Rookie of the Week after averaging 16 ppg and 4.5 rpg in games versus App State and Radford.

Niners lead the series 5-0.

Of course, the BIG game in Harrisonburg tomorrow is JMU's FCS playoff matchup with Stony Brook!

Dukes listed as a 2 point favorite in the Observer.

And speaking of the Big O, this morning's printed edition gave quite  a bit of space to a couple of annual rivalry games - Cincy vs Xavier and ODU vs VCU! Hmm...

Plus they’ll have a huge crowd for this game after their football fans leave that game to go to the b-ball game, especially if they win the football game.
