Updated trade: Turns out that Buffalo traded CB Kevon Seymour to the Carolina Panthers for WR Kaelin Clay, per source.

Does that increase the likelihood of Duke to the practice squad?

He didn't make it. They kept two, Frazier and Garrett.

Shoutbox gang was all really happy to see this. Go Austin!

I know we are having a rough season. Was so glad to see Austin at the game Saturday. Great rep for our program & school. Very happy for him. This will continue to open doors for him. Byrd got such great experience on the squad.

Great news.  It's perhaps the best football news we've had so far during this football season.

And he will be pulling in at least $7,200 per week! Not too shabby!

It was part of that new CBA. 7,200 this year, and I think it goes up every year. It has for a while. He will be getting paid good. Proud of him, and hope he can stick to it.

I'm assuming it's $7200 during the season only, however, not over the course of a full year or anything.  Still looking at $100k this season!

Yep, regular and post-season. This also has the schedule of increases in coming years.

I doubt it personally. I think they'll try to find a veteran before they elevate him, but it'd be great to have two of our original signers make a 53 man roster.

Duke would make around 27,000 a game as long as he was on the roster.

Would love to see this but he isn't ready. He needs the reps on the practice squad and needs to get stronger.

Panthers have placed Damiere Byrd on IR and signed S Jarius Byrd.

Coleman is hurt and may miss a month so they might still add a WR

BigTymer99 Duke was catching an amazing catch per day in Camp per the paper that hates us.  I think he's ready.

He sucked when the lights came on. He needs a year at least to continue working and get better.

I thought the Panthers may reach out to Philly Brown, but he just resigned with the Bills today. If Samuel is healthy, wont be surprised if the Panthers go into Sunday with only 4 receivers instead of bringing someone up. Probably more necessary right now to use that spot for depth in the secondary, and CMC is  a better receiver than anyone we could bring in anyways. We will likely hear soon.

Duke talking Niner football on WFNZ.

http://www.wfnz.com/articles/news/austin-duke-charlotte-49ers-program-coach-lambert-doing-it-right-way

I respect Austin and his points and his opinions.  He was given an opportunity by Lambert (who I think is a wonderful human being, just not so great a football coach) and I have no problem with him remaining loyal to him.  I also agree with him that we as fans need to be patient.
My problem with Lambert is that I don't see the improvement I'd like to see five years in.  Missed tackles, dumb penalties, blown coverages, poor special team play (with the exception of Arthur) and terrible play calling have not changed in five seasons.
He also doesn't see that attendance is down and we as fans are becoming apathetic to the program.  I don't mind losing, the program is new and will take time to build, but I want to lose smarter.
It was nice that we won a Saturday, but we still had 15 penalties (three declined), a terrible blown coverage on their td pass, and a terrible run up the middle on fourth and one in the opening drive.
The players made the plays we needed and the 2 point conversion call was gutsy and awesome, but I still left the game thinking we got away with one.
