Return game from Georgia State in 2017

Quote
FBSchedules.com has also learned that Charlotte will host Georgia State on Sept. 9, 2017. The two schools agreed to a game in 2015 last summer and were discussing the date for the second game of the series.

According to the contract, the 2015/17 games are a home-and-home series with a $200,000 cancellation fee for each game. In addition, Georgia State reserves the right to move the 2015 game, currently set for Thursday, Sept. 3, to either Wednesday, Sept. 2 or Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 if the Atlanta Falcons are playing at the Georgia Dome that weekend.

Someone on a WKU board says they think they are coming here next season.  I would imagine that would turn Marshall into a road game.

So our home schedule for 2017 is:

9/9 - Georgia State
9/16 - NC A&T
Western Kentucky
Marshall
Florida Atlantic
C-USA West Team (UTEP, North Texas, La Tech, UAB)

I'd like to see UAB come here out of that group.

9/23 - @Kansas State $$$

Can't remember which newspaper it came from but I remember them stating a high possibility of us playing UAB.

That's an attractive home schedule, WKU could be ranked and Marshall despite their problems is still Marshall. Georgia State to me is a better draw than EMU since they're regional and NC A&T should bring a decent crowd. I would love it if it's UAB for the sixth slot. They have a great story with the program being resurrected and with us being the most recent start-up it should attract some interest.

Let the countdown to kick-off begin. I've got my passport in a safe place and hope I get to use it next bowl season.

What are the odds we can start off 3-0?  Then we can talk bowl stuff through most of the season.

EMU, GSU, and A&T all seem beatable.  Not sure about EMU's team next year though.

Emu loses a lot on defense.

I think we lose more starters in total than them.

Likely deduction.  Marshall and FAU are due to come here.  We are due to go to FIU, ODU and Middle.
I also saw on one of their boards that they thought they were coming here.

EMU's coach has been linked to the Nevada opening, right? Fairly sure I saw that somewhere.

I guess beating us put him in the mix.   ???
Hey 49er undergrads, you are bigger than UNC-CH.  Start acting like it!

Awesome! I hope the game is in Charlotte and I hope UAB lands a new stadium in the next few years.

Thanks for the info. I'll be there regardless of the location, and will be pulling for y'all in every game except one next year.

I would assume we win that game, but you just never know.  Regardless, I'll also be pulling for UAB in every game except one.  I think most of us can associate with their situation.

They were given some recruiting exemptions.  I would wager they hit the ground running.

IIRC, they got quite the talent haul, as well (and a lot of transfers that aren't reflected in their recruiting rankings).  Still, in 2016 they signed 21 3* recruits (http://uab.247sports.com/Season/2016-Football/Commits).  Guys like Clifton Garrett signed with them over Auburn, Florida State, etc.  I imagine they'll come out of the gate pretty strong.
Hail Charlotte 49ers and Hark Upon the Gale!

I'm a bit more pessimistic than some other Blazer fans. I fully expect we'll look like a first year program. Things like speed and competitiveness just can't be replicated in practice.
