"ODUís Conference USA home opener, on paper, should be a blowout."

I for one think we will have a good chance of competing in this game. If our offense keeps progressing as it has from the start and our defense makes some scheme adjustments with some added depth, I think we have an opportunity to surprise alot of people this year. While I'm not getting over confident we were still alot better team last year than our record would suggest.

Harry Minimum has come off as kind of smug towards our program, or atleast his writing and tweets aim in that direction at times.  I'd love nothing more than to beat him so he has to cover that s***, write it, blog, and tweet about it.

I think he's pretty fair. Maybe a hint of smug but they have done well with their program and have a lot to be proud of.

Also they are the only game in town so they get lots of attention.

All that being said if we had a beat writer that did half as good a job covering us I would be happy. His coverage of ODU is second to none for local beat writers.

We will have plenty of struggles. Having 19 starters returning is the best you can do going into FBS being a start up program.

Who will we loose going into year 2? Danny Book and Clayton-Molby and Nick Cook...any others?

Cook is a RS Jr this year. He will return in 2016. Also, lose, not loose. Unless you're a medievil english longbowman, and intend to launch him over JRS.

I realized both my mistakes after posting but was past logging back on to correct... I was pretty sure someone would notice... The biggest mistake was listing Nick Cook as being in his final year. I hear really good things about him and am hopeful the year off will only make him better.

Here is who we will lose after this season:

Clayton-Molby, Caleb   LB
Johnson, Devon   DE
Book, Daniel   OL
Holmes, Ardy   CB
Dozier, Branden   DB
Murphy, Richard   H
Alexander, Damarrell   RB
Nixon, Cortezz   CB
Thomas, Zach   OL
Desmond Floyd  DE

Very small recruiting class next year... hope we land top tier talent. The good thing is we are utilizing the opportunity to recruit the 2017 class.

I was just having fun with the visual of a big LB sailing over the stands...

I am very jealous of the coverage that ODU gets in their hometown paper. i actually think our football team may get more coverage by their beat writer than ours.  Do we even have a beat writer?

Hey now.  Constant criticism of the O is a good way to have some false slanderous lies spread about you.

I absolutely despise those green emblems on the black helmets.   I like the green shirt, white pants combo the best.

Phillips and Duke are really special players. It will be interesting to see how their talent translates to a higher level of competition.

That's a great video... Nice work putting it together. The boys have been hitting it hard in the weight room. We have one of the best off season conditioning staffs regardless of school size. Players work hard when motivated! Look forward to seeing how they transform physically as they mature.

If you are a season ticket holder and want to keep your seats from last year, today is the last day to renew.

just renewed football tickets via the phone but was charged the $8 handling/convenience fee.  Was anyone else charged the handling fee for phone payment?

Savio, that's a deal!  Cost me four bucks more on-line (i.e. $12).  BTW, thanks MikeNiner11 for the reminder.  With all the snow and ice, and other unexpected events in my life recently, I had forgotten about it.

Conference USA spring prospectus:

2. Charlotte moves up a level. After two seasons as a Football Championship Subdivision independent, Charlotte will spend the spring preparing for a heightened level of competition. For advice on how to take this step, the 49ers can look toward a pair of new conference rivals: UTSA, which made a similarly quick leap into the Football Bowl Subdivision, and Old Dominion, which made its Conference USA debut a season ago. Both hit the ground running; Charlotte, which has yet to face a team from the FBS, might demand a steeper learning curve. But with 19 returning starters, tied with Appalachian State for the most in the country, the 49ers might sneak up and surprise a few teams in league play.

We could, but it will depend largely on how well the new players on defense perform (and the new DC) and the QB position.

I think our receivers, Phillips, and o line will do fine.

If Barden isn't the answer this year, I hope we utilize both Johnson and McNeil since they have different strengths. McNeil in the redzone seemed to be a lot more effective than Johnson in the redzone. Conversely, Matt did better in the open field. The big plays were less frequent after Johnson went down with injury. Duke would have led FCS in receiving (and probably the whole country) if Johnson played out the whole season.

I saw Barden at practice last fall. He has a nice arm and a really fast release. He will just need experience.
