why aren't we ???????

I like Lambert, but he can't take us to the next level, in my opinion, it's just my opinion, just like companies, the founder can take you so far because that is his or her expertise, but to scale you have to bring in a proven commodity

Kiffin has already done power 5, recruited etc....

we are either in this football thing or we are not

Would be a huge hire, don't see how they can pull it off though. He's making 1.4 mill now and I'm sure he'd want a big budget for his staff.

I am not convinced Lambert can take us much further.  Next year I think will tell us if he can take us to next level.  With that said I dont want Lane Kiffin anywhere near our program.  He is terrible.

this. I think Lambert is a pretty poor coach, but I don't want us rushing out to sign a supreme douche like kiffin to replace him.

If you are going for a hire like this then Charlie Strong. Texas terrible fit for him. Louisville showed his strengths better.  Good coach. Great recruiter. Does things right. Now back to reality.

Apparently talks have stalled for Kiffin and FAU. Probably saw our TV deal.

Charlie Strong seems to be lead guy for USF.

Not sure FAU can afford to pay him that kind of money. However, rich recruiting grounds in SFLA should be very attractive.

Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin has agreed to become FAU's next head football coach, per @ClowESPN and @McMurphyESPN.

So the Eastern Division now has Butch Davis and Lane Kiffin now.

Butch is overrated. Has not coached in what 5 years? Not worried about him, FAU is a very tough gig so we'll see how he handles a program with three straight 3-7 seasons.

It is rumored that Butch got a 5 year - $5 mill deal.  I'm sure FAU will give something similar to Kiffin.

Here are the salaries from last year:

RK   SCHOOL                       CONF   COACH   TOTAL PAY
75   Rice                              C-USA   David Bailiff   $903,556
77   Texas-San Antonio      C-USA   Frank Wilson   $835,000
80   North Texas              C-USA   Seth Littrell   $815,000
82   Western Kentucky      C-USA   Jeff Brohm   $808,720
83   Middle Tennessee      C-USA   Rick Stockstill   $804,004
86   Marshall                     C-USA   Doc Holliday   $765,320
92   Florida International     C-USA   Ron Turner   $610,731
93   Charlotte                     C-USA   Brad Lambert   $600,000
94   Florida Atlantic              C-USA   Charlie Partridge   $591,250
97   Old Dominion             C-USA   Bobby Wilder   $569,590
103   Texas-El Paso             C-USA   Sean Kugler   $515,332
104   Louisiana Tech             C-USA   Skip Holtz   $515,000
107   Southern Mississippi   C-USA   Jay Hopson   $500,000

As you can see, some schools are going out and spending money in light of the poor TV deal.  Other schools are using it as an excuse to delay projects and freeze budgets.

That's a big time hire, they made more splash with theirs than FIU did with Butch. The East could be tough in a couple of years if either or both the F()Us get things cranked up.

Who knows if Butch or Kiffin will work out but it is good for the conference to get publicity landing household names as coaches. In time CUSA could become a much better conference than it is today.

Yes, CUSA will be much more competitive going forward. FAU and FIU will likely pick up the pace in those Florida recruiting wars. I hope we can take some serious steps and start to build sustainable momentum in the program.
Not sure if Lambert is the guy to do that but I believe next year will say a lot about the future of our program.

I know we recruit Florida pretty hard, bad news for us going forward? Would think we need to find a new pipeline state.

There's always Texas.
Madness is the emergency exit. You can just step outside, and close the door on all those dreadful things that happened. You can lock them away... forever.

Reminds me of the USF guy that was at our feasibility meetings years ago.  He said everyone attributes USF success because they were in FL.  He said starting in FL made things even harder because in addition to powers like FSU, Miami and FL - the entire nation recruits FL.

So change our recruiting strategy because a flaky mediocre coach just landed a gig at a school that has about as much football history as us? Nah.

Hell, even sounds like he has backballed himself from Palm Beach County:
