I have never understood why people on this board act like we fired John wooden seven years ago.

Lutz inherited a NCAA team (which should have beaten a #1 seed).  He got to recruit in a strong conference and sold recruits on playing nationally recognized schools.  In comparison, Coach Price inherited 4 players (not all of which are viable D1 players) in an atrocious conference.

We currently have a bad team and will continue to be until a strong post player(s) is/are added.

I understand how some will want to remember better times however lutz wasn't a great coach and should have been removed earlier.  Time and our recent years of ineptness make people forget the 8 pt first half we scored at home vs miss st, lutz's insistance of shooting 3s despite whether we had capable shooters or not, his switching defenses which almost always resulted in uncontested layups, losing to horrible teams every year we should have run out of the gym, his pornstache, his temper  tantrums, etc.  And people here think he could recruit in this conference and win now?  Not a chance.

You want to talk about something other than Coach Price and our current team, post cheerleader pics not relive lutz
.   Congrats! That may be the dumbest post written on this board in months.

What strong debate tactics you possess.  I am surprisingly unable to determine exactly what issue you have with my post other than your lutz man crush.  He hasn't exactly enjoyed a stellar coaching resume since being fired.  You can 't claim there haven't been ample head coaching vacancies for him to have an opportunity over the last 7 years.  Please enlighten us.
If you actually think the part of your post that I bolded is factual and well written you aren't worth the effort. I actually thought it might be satire when I first read it.

Yeah, Lutz should have been cut loose in 2007. That's not crazy. That's what should have happened. We actually did have a half of basketball against Mississippi State in which we only scored 9 points. His recruiting results dropped like an anvil when we left the C-USA. He never sold Charlotte to recruits, he sold Louisville, Memphis, Marquette and Cincinnati to recruits. When that was gone he had nothing.

C-Pip's right.  About EVERYTHING.

Cincinnati was the only CUSA team that held a winning record against us.  The A10 was tickled shitless to have us join at the time.  Wow, did we let them down, but we were still somewhat competitive in that conference most years.  And then Alan took over and we have had a shitstorm ever since.

You know what they say about opinions. As for the MSU game, yes I know. I was there----as usual. My point was how stupid it was to use that ONE HALF OF A GAME as a reason for Lutz being "bad" and let go, when you're talking about a guy who spent 11+ years here and had lots of success. As for "lutz's insistance of shooting 3s despite whether we had capable shooters or not".....how many years did we NOT have good 3-point shooters here while Bobby was coaching? Not many, maybe no great ones the last 2-3 years.......... And then to use "his pornstache" etc.......what a joke and of course you are on board with it. How surprising. ::)

It was time to move on from Lutz in 2007.  I greatly underestimated the competence of Judy Rose and Phil Dubois to hire a successful basketball coach.

In hindsight, with the shitshow we have become, we probably should have just given Lutz a lifetime contract. How much worse would we really be now?  At least we wouldn't have millions in dead money paying coaches not to coach our team.

We might all have to come to the conclusion that while Bobby had his issues, he over achieved here.  Maybe what we have now is the norm and what we did 95-05  is the exception.

No, and absolutely not.

There is no way, with our resources, our city, our history, our facilities, our past attendance #s, our student body population that 10th in the #25 conference in the nation should be the norm.

Someone bring this man back to life, I think he's dying on us.

The only possible way you could be close to right is that CUSA is so atrocious that it is pulling everything else down. I cautiously supported the move to CUSA because of better opportunity for football and the possibility of conference realignment, but when I say cautiously I put out the idea that we could be crushing basketball in the process but it was still worth the shot. I got piled on for saying that, but that is the only possible reason we could be relegated to constant sucking.

But even then, look at what MTSU has done since 2012 - NIT, NCAA, NIT, CIT, NCAA, probably NCAA again. Look at what Motton has done in conference at Central.

There is no way a kenpom of 245 is the new normal.

We have spent more time being a bad to mediocre basketball program than we have being a good team.

Its true he didn't recruit to Charlotte and leveraged our CUSA mates prob a bit too much, but the school did Bobby no favors with his contract situation.  Coaching into his final contracted year, which prompted him to seek out other coaching jobs.  All we heard with Major and now Price is the need to extend contracts for recruiting.  Bobby did not get the courtesy and no doubt that impacted his ability to recruit to some degree.

Coaches make a lot of money now and only stupid ones would have trouble paying the bills if they went unemployed for a couple of years.  If I were a coach I would negotiate a deal that gave me more money to hire assistants and staff in lieu of any termination clause.  Give me a 5 year contract, each year renew it for another year, and if anyone is unhappy with the situation they can pull the plug and walk away without penalty.
Hey 49er undergrads, you are bigger than UNC-CH.  Start acting like it!
