With our season wrapping up next week it's time to start looking forward to which games will be on the docket for next season.

NON-CONFERENCE
Curious to see if the non-D1 games become a regular occurrence on our non-conference schedules. Considering we had trouble with the opponent we may want to consider reserving our embarrassment for other D1 teams. Also of not, the Davidson contract I saw was only through last season.

DAVIDSON
WAKE FOREST
@South Florida
@James Madison

If I'm Coach Price I don't worry about finding quality opponents, we need to rack up wins for his sake and to help C-USA. No public infortmation out regarding the possibility of early season event/tournament.

CONFERENCE USA
Expect the schedule to have sites flipped again unless we hear otherwise after meetings. Going to a tiered format like the A10 did in 2008 could help.

WESTERN KENTUCKY

When was the South Florida game announced? Will this be a home-and-home? How much of a chance that they try to schedule WAKE at the Spectrum Center?

Wake is in Halton. USF was announced several months ago.

This does not appear to be in the works, however anything is possible.

Based on a document obtained last week, C-USA has divided the teams into tiers. We are designated "Tier 2" of 3, this designation was not on a similar document from last year. It's unclear what the role of the "Tiers" will be.

In C-USA the tiers would seem to be:

Tier 1 - Cares about basketball.  Invests in success.  Sees results.
Tier 2 - Cares about basketball.  Wishes for success.  Poor investment, poor results.
Tier 3 - Does not care about basketball.  Is just here for the refreshments.

Tier 2 is generous for us, if these tiers are based on results.

I've always felt you can't get better unless you play competition that's better than you. Only way to build any sort of confidence you are a good basketball team is to beat or be really competitive against one...of course we are losing those types of games by 20-30 points...so who knows???...Man...we really suck...getting so hard to care anymore..........

Well, given our current state, that's pretty much most of the available D1 programs so that should not be an obstacle.  We are terrible.

Last night at the Coaches Caravan, Coach Price informed the crowd that we'd be starting a H/H with Oklahoma State and that they'd be coming to Halton during the 2018-19 season with the Niners playing in Stillwater this season.

There are some tentative dates and additional opponents from documents obtained:

11/11: Probably a stupid non-d1 game, of which I will no't be attending.
11/18(Tent): CHARLESTON
11/20: PRESBYTERIAN
11/28: DAVIDSON
12/2: at James Madison
12/5: WAKE FOREST
12/18: at East Carolina
12/21: at South Florida

TBD: at Oklahoma State

This is 9 games. If we abstain from participating in a early season tournament (poor decision, but compared to playing non-d1's looks okay) we have two more games to schedule. If we do participate in an event we could see 3 or 4 more games.

The following section is entirely speculative
  • My personal favorite to be a part of would be the Savannah Invitational. Would be two games in Savannah over Thanksgiving weekend, with probably 2 home games.
  • We could also find ourselves as a regional opponent in a larger tournament. As a Nike school, we could be linked to Phil Knight Invitational, play a couple of road games at, for example, Duke and Connecticut, then two other games against similar teams.
  • We could also find ourselves in a "Round-Robin" event at home or at another school, usually three teams that play each-other Fri-Sun with a non-bracketed D2 home game for each team.
  • And there are other Round-Robin events with every-team getting at least one home game revolving around a host

What's advantage of not playing in the mid season tourneys?

Methodist looks to be a Div III school.  Are we counting this as a game or an exhibition?  I casually expressed my displeasure with our real game against Newberry last year, but I gave the Athletic Dept the benefit of the doubt.  Maybe something fell through the cracks and we needed a game, or maybe they were throwing Spease a bone and letting his kid play on a floor he grew up on.  However, if we are booking a Div III school this year for a game that we are going to count then I am going to have a talk with someone.

I haven't confirmed it yet, but I believe that is our regular season home opener. Allows to have 2 "secret" scrimmages.

ugh.  going to predict 5-5  out of conference.  (methodist game won't count)  Hope we're wrong and it's an exhibition.  Gotta stop doing that.

This is "the plan" going forward. I didn't renew my season tickets last year because of this, and again will not this year. They are saying they are doing this to protect our RPI, which hasn't been Top 100 in 4 years, nothing to protect. They are doing it because the guarantee check is about 1/3 of the price. If they're looking to save a buck then so am I.

We do have 5 D1 home games in the non-conference, but we may be favored in just 2 of them. If team improves minimally, we should be 6-4 in non-conf at worst.

Losses to East Carolina, James Madison, High Point, South Florida, Chattanooga (Very good last season but lost their coach and 5 seniors) or Presbyterian should not be acceptable.

We will be lucky to get one win against Charleston, Davidson, Wake Forest, or Oklahoma State without significant drop-off from them (see Oregon State).

As for the C-USA slate, broke the games into 3 categories, based off minimal acceptable improvement from team.

Exp Losses: @ODU, @LT, @MAR, @WKU (4 Games)

Exp Wins: @Rice, @NT, MAR, @FIU, @FAU, FIU, FAU, @USM, UTSA (9 Games)

Toss-Ups: WKU, ODU, UTEP, UAB, MT (5 Games)

Given a minimal amount of luck in the toss-up games (1-4)

C-USA Record of 10-8 would be something to work with.

So as of today, a 16-12 record (versus D1) should be a reasonable expectation to hold Coach Price to (ATTN. JUDY ROSE). Of course this is conditional, there are many variables that can pull this expectation one way or another. But if Price can't get to a 16-12 record with the balanced roster he's put together I think he will have made his case that he is NOT the man to bring Charlotte back from the abyss.

C-Pip's right.  About EVERYTHING.
