I've said it before....with TV contracts shrinking for the G5...the landscape will shift to more regional conferences to limit the money spent on travel for all sports.
There will be good and bad for this. The bad is that the conferences will be structured by geography not by calibre of teams. So we may very well be in a conference with App St, ECU, and other universities close by. The good is that those teams are where HEATED rivalries are developed. I think the games and rivalries will be great for local fan interest...but it's definitely not a seat at the big boy table.
I was hoping getting football would add to our resume of size and TV market in time to get us a seat at that table in another round of conference realignment but it looks like our timing was just a little late.
If we would have added football back when the basketball team was thriving in the late '90's early 2000's....I think we'd already have a seat somewhere in the P5.
But we didn't
And we don't
And that's an unfortunate reality we now have to live with
clt says we need a name change
ESPN has laid off a lot of talent this week. Obviously they are cutting costs. What does this mean for us? My first reaction is that we aren't going to be getting more revenue from TV deals in the foreseeable future. Maybe never.
If this trend continues. What will the long term impact on the G5 and the FCS?
I am going to go ahead and predict that our friends in Chapel Hill and Raleigh will be ok, not sure about the rest of us.
Larry's conference call with Cleveland media.

Larry is listed on the Brown's roster as number 65!

Until now I barely cared about the NFL draft, so help me out here--is Larry sure to be a Brown, or could he end up being packaged and traded somewhere else in the next week or so?
I don't see why they picked him if they were going to deal him. NFL draft usually doesn't do that (like the NBA does). Usually picks, not, players are exchanged on draft day.
Edited to add: Cleveland doesn't have a number #65
