Parking deck by the new UNC Charlotte light rail stop now puts on a neat light show (video via CATS)
What is being built near this parking deck and adjacent parking lot?
I'm assuming you're talking about a deck on campus. This one is in Tryon st across from campus.

In campus, the construction near the deck and lot is for facilities since they will lose their spot to the new science building.

"Op-Ed: Light rail development is failing in University City. Here’s why"

https://www.charlotteagenda.com/108530/op-ed-light-rail-development-failing-university-city-heres/

This was written by Martin Zimmerman, facilities planning director for UNC Charlotte in the 1990s.

They've decided to not renovate Sanford and Moore halls.  Going to demo the towers and replace with a single 750-800 bed complex.

Damn...thats really tough to hear (as a former resident). Those buildings had some special memories and in my mind are a key part of the fabric of UNC Charlotte. Sucks to see they're coming down.

Seems like that would be a net decrease in total beds.

Had some good times in Moore back in the day.  Hated those early morning fire drills though.  Not fun walking down from the 11th floor.

I hate to see the university skyline take a hit. With the loss of these two and bell tower, campus is a lot less visible from afar.

I always liked the view coming down mallard creek church towards Tryon, but it isnt the same without the belk tower.

RIP "sausage hall" & the "virgin vault".

Reference probably wasted on anyone who attended in the late 90s or later.

I know Sanford was an all girls highrise... sororities, right?

When I was there, guys could not go into Sanford after midnight unless a girl came down to escort him in.  But it was ok to leave anytime you wanted to.

Looks like the trains are up and testing at full speed going on and off of campus. Phil got himself a nice test ride. 8)

Kids leaving this school will be the worst for demanding high salaries.  They will need them to keep up with this lifestyle.

Anyone know what is going on in the library? The 5th-10th floors have been closed for what appears to be a renovation which is desperately needed on most of them.

Hope it doesn't take too long, that place gets crowded at times, which is why I take over entire lecture halls and study for exams there, much more fun.

The only space I can think of top of mind right around campus that would work well is the old bar on 49 at the intersection with mallard creek church that has had probably a dozen different names.
That place was originally Gus's Original Forty-Niner Restaurant.  It opened in '69 and I believe it closed in 1995.  It was "the nice place" back in the day, serving continental food and fine wine.  I went to several fraternity formals there.  I am sure the building needs a lot of work, but I would love to see it come back as a nice place, maybe even under the same name.

I noticed last Saturday night that they are working on the building.  It looks like they have gutted it and are doing the kind of work required to bring it up to code.  Anyone know what is going to be there?

Gus' was a great place to eat. And when you walked in the door they had 49er memorabilia on all the walls!

Roped off the area around Belk Plaza to make that fountain or whatever they are making there. They also roped off an area off to the side where the counseling center was. Anyone know what is going on there?
