On May 14, 1981, former Charlotte 49ers basketball standout Cedric Maxwell was named the NBA Finals MVP after helping the Boston Celtics defeat the Houston Rockets for the NBA Championship and the 14th NBA Title for the storied Boston Celtics franchise.

April 2, 2009 - Charlotte 49ers forward Charlie Coley awed Niner Nation with his amazing dunking ability, capping off his Niners career by reaching the finals of the 2009 NCAA Slam Dunk Contest at the Palace in Auburn Hills in suburban Detroit, Michigan.
